The cat

It was the old Chinese cat
It was not that it was old
Nor that cat from China
But it was a Chinese's cat

The cat was awfully proud
Of its wonderful fur coat
It always knew very well
Of its awesome beauty

It never knew modesty
Or else it would be saint
It walked as if the world
Was conquered by itself

But now it had an envy
A jealously in the brain
It was because of Tom
The ugliest street cat

That awed a Korean cat
On the other side of hill
Now the old Chinese cat
Was streaming with envy

It would trade the world
Just to get to the other side
Oh! Such a poor cat it was
Little did it know about Tom!

The cat set out packed full
With food to last till the end
With the best designer wear
To the other side of the hill

Not knowing the other side
Was the dog side of the world
It took the big road journey
Crossing the green corn fields

Passing over the little streams
And the blue and red streets
It passed over the millstone
And even the widow's cottage

At last it reached the other side
It was the dog-meeting day
And so all the dogs were gone
The cat went till the city square

The very place of the meeting!
Shocked it was to see the dogs
Chased by every mutt and cur
It ran for its life so dear

Never again did the cat envy
Any other creature alive
For its wonderful beauty
That exceeded it's own
